I mean this guy => πblank vertical space, 16 pixels high

As in πr², that circle thing from math class.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

We celebrate Pi Day on March 14th because, ha-ha, π = 3.14, and on and on.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Let’s face it, π is a bottomless pit, only it goes sideways instead of down.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Bor-ing. Unless you’ve got some kinda math fetish.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

So forget Pi, let’s celebrate Pie Day instead.blank vertical space, 24 pixels high

We could celebrate by going out and buying a pie at a bake sale, but bake sales are hard to come by this time of year, at least here in New Hampshire. So I was thinking maybe a pie fight.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

But I don’t like to get all gooey and sticky except under highly personal circumstances, so let’s do it vicariously through the movies.blank vertical space, 24 pixels high

Here’s a good choice: Laurel & Hardy’s The Battle Of The Century (1927).blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

The plot: Hardy’s a devious fight manager who takes out an insurance policy on his wimpy fighter, played by Laurel.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Hardy keeps dropping banana peels in Laurel’s path, hoping he’ll have an accident so Hardy can collect on the insurance. When a pie delivery man slips on one of the peels, it triggers an epic pie battle.blank vertical space, 24 pixels high

Cool bit of trivia: Nobody thought to preserve silent films back when they were made. Most were either melted down or just allowed to decompose.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

Battle was a “two-reeler,” only 20 minutes long. Like many silents, it was considered a lost classic. But someone found a copy of the first reel back in the 70’s, and the missing second reel miraculously turned up in 2014.blank vertical space, 16 pixels high

This clip is from a beautifully restored and enhanced version of the film.blank vertical space, 32 pixels high
